Q. Will there be a 'convergence'? Will Israel unilateraly withdraw from large portions of Judea and Samaria, a retreat that was the main axis of the Kadima platform?
A. The idea of disengagement, or one-sided convergence is finished. It is finished politically, psychologically and operationally. In Judea and Samaria, there will not be a repeat, twice over, of the retreat from Gaza. There will not be a massive evacuation of the Jewish communities.
Q. What motivates you to such a firm position?
A. The idea of convergence has died due to three reasons. The first: they are shooting at us from Gaza after we withdrew from it. The second: the Palestinian politics are asunder and divided and there is no one to take responsibility. And the thrid reason: Israel is a democracy and public opinion negates today the idea of an additionl unilateral disengagement. Therefore, it will not be, at least for the next five years or even the next decade.
Of course, we all said that would happen but Peres wouldn't believe us, nor Sharon.
