Happy Beginning for "Happy Endings"

Reviews of Happy Endings

ABC's premiere of the new Elisha Cuthbert sitcom "Happy Endings" received an encouraging reception among viewers...The 9:30 premiere of Cuthbert's "Friends"-esque comedy "Happy Endings," meanwhile, grabbed a 2.7/7 in the demo and 7.2 million total viewers -- a solid showing that handily bested last week's episode of the Matthew Perry comedy "Mr. Sunshine," which had a 1.6/4 in the demo and 4.9 million total viewers.

Decent debut for ABC's 'Happy Endings'

The new ABC sitcom "Happy Endings" got pretty decent reviews, and it had a pretty decent debut as well, thanks mostly to lead-in "Modern Family."  "Endings" averaged a 2.7 adults 18-49 rating at 9:30 p.m. last night, according to Nielsen overnights, holding 71 percent of "Family's" 3.8 at 9 p.m.  That's a solid number for any new show these days, although there was a small sign of trouble at 10 p.m., where a second new episode of "Endings" averaged a 2.3, losing 15 percent from the first episode.  Still, the first "Endings" was on par with Fox's "Breaking In," the other new sitcom in the 9:30 slot, which averaged a 2.8 despite having a much stronger lead-in from "American Idol."

And "Endings" easily outdrew last week's 10 p.m. timeslot occupant, "Off the Map," which drew a mere 1.3 last week.

Two new comedies faced off Wednesday night as ABC’s Happy Endings premiered and Fox aired the second episode of Christian Slater’s Breaking In.  Happy (7.3 million viewers, 2.7 preliminary adults 18-49 rating) pulled a decent number in at 9:30 p.m. but was down 27 percent from the premiere of Mr. Sunshine in the slot earlier this year and fell 29 percent from its Modern Family lead-in (9.5 million, 3.8). ABC ran a second episode of Happy at 10 p.m. (5.7 million, 2.3).
